PES 2022 is one the way to release; No, it’s eFootball now. Konami has officially renamed the Pro Evolution Soccer or PES series to eFootball. Not only that, it is a Free-to-play game now. This Autumn, eFootball is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. It will also be available in iOS and Android versions later this year. Konami said that all the eFootball versions would support cross-platform by this winter, whereas mobile users should use the controller to play cross-platform.

Konami teased the engine switch earlier and became the first football game built on the Unreal engine. Switch from Konami’s FOX engine to custom-built Unreal 4, Rename from PES to eFootball, going Free-to-play, new modes, and a lot more revamp; It is Konami’s most significant move, and eFootball has a long way to grow and evolve. The studio also promised new modes, cross-play support, tournaments, and other new systems; they’ll be delivered over time. Konami planned a road map for eFootball; it includes cross-platform matches, new modes, mobile controller support and more.

“It all began with the implacable determination to create a revolutionary soccer platform. Our ambition was to recreate the perfect soccer environment, from the grass on the field to the players’ movement, all the way to the crowds in the stadium.

To this end, we decided to create a new soccer engine with a newly built animation system and revamped game commands. The final result was even more impressive than we had originally conceived. We went beyond the border of PES, into a new realm of virtual soccer. To signal this new era, we have decided to part ways with our beloved PES brand and rename it eFootball.”

– Konami

Seitaro Kimura explained to IGN that eFootball aims to be a platform with regular updates. So Konami will no longer do annual paid releases of eFootball, but it’ll give free yearly updates for new seasons.
