Valve has officially announced the Steam Deck, a handheld full gaming PC. After all the rumors about a handheld gaming PC, Valve is now finally bringing it to us. It might look like a regular handheld gaming console, but it is Steam OS-powered Gaming PC. You can play almost all of the PC games available in Steam on Steam Deck.

Steam Deck runs a modified version of Valve’s Steam OS; it fits into the handheld with the console-like user interface. The form factor of Steam Deck is much similar to Nintendo Switch and sightly larger with the capabilities of a full gaming PC. Steam OS provides easy navigation of Steam store and Steam library.

It also provides access to a computer desktop; any third-party applications can be installed in it, including the games that are not available on Steam games.

Steam Deck Specifications

In terms of hardware, Steam Deck has an AMD APU 4-core CPU clocked at 2.4-3.5GHz, 8 RDNA GPU,
16 GB LPDDR5 RAM, and storage options of 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. You can later expand the memory with a micro SD card.

It has a 7-inch, 60hz LCD display with 1280x800px and 400 nits brightness. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band WiFi.

In terms of audio, it comes with embedded stereo speakers, a dual-microphone array, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also supports audio via Bluetooth and USB-C.

To check more info on spec, read the official specifications page.

Steam Deck is packed up with a 40Whr battery; Valve claims that it can give 2 – 8 hrs of gameplay depending on the kind of game you’re playing. You can refill the juice with a 45W USB Type-C PD3.0 charger.

Availability

Steam Deck is available in 3 variants where everything inch of the spec is the same on all three except the storage. More money, more storage. The 64GB base variant starts at $399, followed by a $529 model with 256 GB, and finally, a $649 version that has 512 GB.

Valve will soon open reservations for you to grab a Deck. More news coming; stay tuned.

So, that’s been it. Thank you for reading, and do share the article if you get a bit piece of information. Also, keep an eye on this space for more relevant updates. Stay safe, and we hope to see you around.
