Mattel’s iconic plastic doll, Barbie, has accomplished yet another remarkable feat in 2023. The silver screen adaptation of this beloved doll’s legacy, Barbie the movie, has soared to new heights, solidifying its place as the highest-grossing domestic release in Warner Bros. history.

In a triumphant stride, Barbie movie gracefully strutted past the $500 million milestone at the domestic box office earlier this week. Its unfaltering charm and allure have not only captivated hearts but wallets as well, as the film celebrates its fourth consecutive weekend of triumphant reign in theaters. Notably, the current tally for Barbie stands at an impressive $537.5 million, according to Variety. This remarkable achievement has bestowed upon Barbie the crown of highest-grossing domestic release within the illustrious annals of Warner Bros. cinematic ventures.

The previous record-holder, Christopher Nolan’s 2008 masterpiece, The Dark Knight, had etched its name into history with a notable domestic box office performance of $536 million. Barbie’s meteoric ascent, however, has eclipsed even this formidable benchmark.

Having graced the silver screen just last month, Barbie’s celluloid journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. The film’s profound impact has resonated deeply with critics and audiences alike, earning it widespread acclaim. Unveiling its international appeal, Barbie recently breached the billion-dollar mark at the global box office. A historic achievement accompanied this feat, as director Greta Gerwig etched her name in the annals of cinema history, becoming the first female director to surpass the billion-dollar threshold.

The enchantment of Barbie movie continues to weave its spell in theaters. However, a sneak peek into the future emerged during a recent WB earnings call. CEO David Zaslav tantalizingly unveiled that Barbie will soon grace the Warner Bros. streaming service, Max, extending its reach into the digital realm. As anticipation brews, moviegoers and enthusiasts can look forward to welcoming Barbie into their homes sometime this fall, embracing the magic anew.
