The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony has been postponed and will now occur on January 15, 2024. This change comes amidst ongoing strikes from two major Hollywood unions, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
Originally planned for September 18, 2023, the Emmy Awards show had to be postponed due to these strikes. FOX and the Television Academy jointly made this announcement.
The ceremony will take place live from the Peacock Theater at LA Live. It will honor the talented performers, writers, directors, and craftspeople who’ve entertained and connected global audiences throughout the past year.
Notably, “The Last of Us” made history by becoming the first live-action video game adaptation to earn significant consideration from the Emmy Awards. This HBO series received nods for outstanding drama series and for performances by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
HBO’s popular drama “Succession,” created by Jesse Armstrong, leads this year’s nominations with an impressive 27 nods, including Best Drama Series. Following closely is “The Last of Us” with 24 nominations. “The White Lotus” and “Ted Lasso” also received notable recognition, with 23 and 21 nominations respectively.
The rescheduled awards ceremony will be broadcast on January 15, 2024, at 8 pm EST / 5 pm PST, coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will span two consecutive nights on January 6 and 7, 2024, at LA Live’s Peacock Theater. An edited presentation of these awards will air on January 13, 2024, at 8 pm EST on FOX.
