Cardi B, a young and energetic rapper makes her first foray into the shoe industry. She is to make a debut on November 13 for the Club C Cardi sneaker collection by Rebook. Footwear News magazine introduced her as a cover star for their magazine cover page. On that cover, Rapper Cardi B made a pose as emulating Goddess Durga holding a shoe, and they say it’s an homage to Hinduism. If you didn’t see the picture yet, click on the featured image above to see the full cover page image.

Footwear News has mentioned in that image-caption that reads “In that dress, she pays homage to Durga, the Hindu goddess, whose symbols of protection and inner strength resonate as much in modern times as they have through the centuries. Like Durga, Cardi B is a dominant female voice at a critical time.”

Tweets that changed the perspectives

Later that, a whole lot of story reeled on Twitter and Instagram; that finally made Footwear News to remove that image. There are some Hinduism vs Atheist fights that happened on social media after Goddess Durga emulation by Cardi B. All the relevant stuff cannot be posted here, even some of them were deleted too. Let me give you an idea of what happened. A Twitter user tweeted saying “This is not an homage, it’s disrespect”, also mentioned, “Wearing a shoe in a temple is prohibited”. That questions the picture where Cardi B is emulating Goddess Durga but holding a shoe. Here’s the tweet and he did share the deleted Instagram post by Footwear News.

People are saying Cardi B is paying homeage to our hindu goddess Durga. So as a Hindu I want to say that:
1-Wearing a shoe in a temple is prohibited
2-Durga maa is not to be used as an aesthetic
3-Durga maa is NEVER depicted bare bodied
4-THIS. IS. NOT. HOMAGE. IT’S. DISRESPECT. pic.twitter.com/K4QFa431tP

That’s not an end, see what another atheist replied to one of his tweets which intensifies the fight, but no one cared. Warning: Parental Advisory Needed.

Another guy requested apologies from Ben 10 makers for emulating Goddess Durga as Four Arms (One of Ben’s alien forms). Well, enough of this tweet parade.

Cardi B apologizes for cultural appropriation

Rapper Cardi B has no intentions for doing such and I don’t think she did even know about Goddess Durga prior to this photoshoot. Although it was not a mistake of her, She officially apologized through her Instagram story. And she claims that she’ll be more cautious for the future.

Opinion

It was nobody’s intention and they might not know what they really dealing with. But the tweets against them are the real intentional aspects. Goddess Durga is no one’s intellectual. She is an ideal power concept and the team at Footwear News is meant to use that showcasing a brand as Cardi B emulating that concept. So in my opinion, the Twitter wars are too regular and intentional these days, which needs to end.

So that’s it for now, Thank you for reading, and do share if you feel it informative. Also, keep an eye on this space to get more relevant updates. Stay safe and hope we see you around.
