The Indian government sent a last warning to Twitter to comply with the new IT rules. If Twitter fails to comply it will face serious consequences. These new rules were announced in February and will be effective from May 26th. The government mentions that all social media should regulate content on legal requests. Indian Technology minister wrote a letter on June 5th to Twitter. This letter mentions that Twitter did not give clarity on their compliance.

The new rules from the government were to be strictly followed by all social media like Facebook, Whatsapp, and Twitter. These new rules are aimed at regulating the content on the platform and remove the content within 36 hours of a legal order. This new rule also states the companies have a grievance officer who can acknowledge users’ complaints within 24 hours. Another chief officer can be a contact person to the government 24 hours a day. This was first reported by Reuters stating on not meeting the requirements India is legally liable and might be holding the content by Twitter. The letter mentions it in a friendly manner saying “as a gesture of goodwill, Twitter Inc is hereby given one last notice to immediately comply with the rules.”

These new IT rules have created legal battles. Recently Facebook-owned WhatsApp has filed a case against the government. It states that the government is exceeding its power by making rules that will force the company to break end-end encryption. We are yet to hear about what the court has to say against this case against the government.

So, that’s been it. Thank you for reading, and do share the article if you get a bit piece of information. Also, keep an eye on this space for more relevant updates. Stay safe, and we hope to see you around.
