WhatsApp is getting ready with new features this new year, starting with iOS. This is an old feature for Android users but a new feature for iPhone users. WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that shows profile pictures in notifications for iPhone. Not only in the notification, you will get it on the lock screen and also a notification when someone mentions you in a group chat.
The update to show the profile picture in notifications is already available for some users having a beta version. So if you are using a beta version 2.22.1.1 on iOS, you will already be using this feature. As usual, this new feature is reported by Wabetainfo through a blog about the beta features and upcoming features. This is an old feature already available for Android users but too late for iOS.
This new feature will help iPhone users to distinguish from whom the message is coming from in WhatsApp by looking at their profile picture. Only a few people can experience this feature; others have nothing to worry about, you will also get it. WhatsApp will release this feature slowly to non-beta users in a staged manner.
Apart from this, WhatsApp plans to launch some more features that include a new UI for the contacts page. It will make the contacts page in WhatsApp similar to the current iOS contacts page. Another feature will consist of nearby that shows business and shops nearby to get in touch with them. WhatsApp is looking for one more feature: the Community that lets group admins come together and make more prominent communities. All these new or upcoming features are just what WhatsApp is planning, and some of them or all of them might not show up in the future.
