Apple is still disallowing any of the game streaming services. That includes Google Stadia, xCloud, and obviously Luna too. And now, Apple is removing Stadium. It is the only app that allows game streaming via a web-based bridge between the service and the end device.

Stadium is a third-party web browser that can reliably run Stadia cloud gaming. It can take inputs from the Bluetooth devices connected to the iOS device. That’s the reason why Apple is about to pull Stadium from the App Store.

Apple previously set some regulations for cloud gaming services to follow and stream cloud gaming in iOS devices. For instance, all the games in the service shall present as a catalog in the App store and linking their services to them. In other words, Google and Microsoft cannot have a single application that has access to all the games.

So the better way is to approach unofficially. The cloud gaming platforms decided to provide their services via a browser. A browser that can they can rely on for a seamless gameplay experience. Currently, Stadium is good at it. The cloud gaming services are about to launch their game streaming via browser and now Apple countered again removing Stadium.

Zachary Knox, the developer of Stadium, replying to a Reddit post, he said that the app utilized extensions that allowed controllers to communicate with Apple’s internal WebKit API. Apple does not want any of the applications using their WebKit API in this way and that’s a violation. So Apple found a reason to remove it this way.

He also mentioned that he has good reason to believe that Google definitely cares about iOS users and will continue to.

“I plan on cleaning up the code and releasing it open source in the next few weeks.”, Knox said.

Google and Microsoft have a perfect plan countered to Apple which is streaming via a browser. Reportedly, Amazon’s cloud gaming service Luna is about to launch and support iOS devices through the browser. Let’s see what Apple will do if that is the case.
