We have known that MGM studios are looking to sell their entire studio. Amazon took the opportunity to buy the old studios with a deal of $8.45 billion. Amazon announced this news via a Blogspot that it now acquires the oldest studio MGM. There were many rumors that Amazon is in talks with MGM studios to buy it, and today we have got an official confirmation.
This acquisition will push Amazon further in the race of OTT with its competitors Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Apple TV+. Amazon mentions that this acquisition is going to provide customers with great access to the MGM works. MGM Studios is one of the oldest studios in Hollywood that has got a huge collection of movies and series. The most notable movie series from MGM are James Bond and The Rocky. Not to forget The Hobbit trilogy and The Pink Panther series. There are even modern TV shows like The Handmaid’s Tale and Vikings. The studio also has unscripted shows like The Voice and Shark Tank.
As Amazon now acquires MGM, this means now we get to see the stylish tech detective movies in Prime. There are also some upcoming movies from MGM that Amazon will now handle. The most exciting upcoming films from MGM are House of Gucci, No Time to Die, Respect, The Addams Family 2, and the untitled Paul Thomas Anderson film.
This acquisition is the second-highest for Amazon after Whole Foods market bought for $13.7 billion in 2017. Not only Amazon all the other OTT’s are trying to expand their libraries by acquiring firms. Recently AT&T announced a $43 billion deal to combine its WarnerMedia with Discovery last week.
