Avatar was released in 2009 and was the biggest hit in the decade, with a gross of $702 million. The 2009 Sci-fi movie was unbeaten until the Avengers: End Game in 2019. End Game from Marvel/Disney in 2019 became the highest-grossing movie with 2.79 billion USD. Now, this title is back with the Avatar movie after the rerelease in China.
The movie has now reached a total of $2.80 billion after the rerelease. The movie in 2009 has crossed the Titanic from the same director James Cameron. Avatar was released in China on March 12th, 2021. After the pandemic, the theaters are being reopened slowly and having some of the old hits are bringing the fans back to the theaters.

So this means that Disney might get End Game back to the first position after US theaters are open.
