Clubhouse needs no introduction ever since its launch; it has been received so well by the users. Since then, all the famous companies have tried to make a clone version of the app. All the social media companies Twitter, Facebook, and even Linkedin, have brought their clubhouse version. The clubhouse now has got millions of users in it with the invite-only feature.  IFF( Internet Freedom Foundation) has given a detailed report about the Clubhouse data collection policy and human privacy.

According to the report, the Clubhouse is collecting more data than required to provide the service. After the company has launched its app for Android, it has got millions of users. In India alone, it has gained 2.6 million users using the clubhouse application. As the application is still in the early days, it doesn’t have a concrete privacy policy. Because of this, it has been collecting a lot of data that requires to run the service.

The data that is being collected by the clubhouse includes names, addresses, contact details, and users’ phone contacts. In addition to that, it also contains the IP addresses, OS, device name, and the duration user is using the app. The company has not yet disclosed what it is doing with the collected data. Not only that, but the app also records all the sessions and says the conversations will be deleted right after the room ends. There is still no clarity of information regarding the entire process that the clubhouse is following.

IFF then demands Clubhouse to develop some human rights policy and a volunteer for civil rights audit. It then continues these audits should be conducted frequently to defend human rights.

“A comprehensive human rights audit is the only way to mitigate the dual-threat of hate & disinformation on the one hand and state/corporate surveillance on the other,”- IFF (Internet Freedom Foundation).
