Apple is having a secret project on the name Titan for the self-driving car. This self-driving car will be having a new driver. John Giannandrea, the head of artificial intelligence and oversees digital voice assistant Siri. This hints that the self-driving car will be driven by Siri using Apple Maps.

Giannandrea previously was the head of the search and artificial intelligence in Google before joining Apple in 2018. It was a huge get for Apple as it was lacking in Natural language processing and AI fields in computer vision with its competitors. He is the leader of machine learning and AI strategy and reports directly to CEO Tim Cook. The handover of the project initially is reported in Bloomberg.

Apple is maintaining very high secrecy in this project as there is no information about the Titan. Most of its competitors have an update regarding self-driving cars. It is running tests on the roads of California. After getting permission to test autonomous vehicles some reports suggest that iPhone makers have hired scores of Tesla engineers. This includes Tesla engineer chief Doug Field.

In February 2019 Apple has fired 190 employees from the project Titan. This decision was taken just after the announcement of the ranks of self-driving cars. This rank has Apple in the last place and was way behind its rival Alphabet. This ranking was done by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

While Apple’s self-driving car remains a secret, it is natural for the company to wait until the technology nurtures before its release. In other words that means Apple never releases a product without any vigorous testing. Apple’s Siri and Maps aren’t a huge success in the department of AI. So, it would be interesting to see how Siri takes care of self-driving cars taking help from Apple Maps. When a company like Apple comes into new technology there will be huge expectations from the audience. Not to forget if that fails there will be a huge mark on the company. Hope to see the best from them as usual.

So that’s it for now. Thank you for reading and please do share the article within your circles if you loved reading it. Also, keep an eye on this space to get relevant updates.
