Pre-orders for the new Samsung smartwatches, Galaxy Watch 6 series, are now open. These watches were showcased at Unpacked in Soul and will begin shipping on August 11. The Classic model features the return of the physical rotating bezel, absent for a year. The latest smartwatches have a refined design and come with various upgrades.

Regarding hardware, the Galaxy Watch 6 series boasts slightly larger screens with higher resolutions and brightness. It also has bigger batteries, an additional 512MB of RAM for a total of 2GB, and the latest Exynos W930 chipset.

Sensor-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is similar to previous models, incorporating a 3-in-1 BioActive Sensor with optical heart rate, electrical heart signal, and bioelectrical impedance analysis sensors. Additionally, there are other sensors like a temperature sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, light sensor, and the Classic model has a 3D Hall sensor for the physical rotating bezel.

Samsung’s latest smartwatches come with Wear OS (4) and One UI Watch (5). They offer improved fitness and sleep tracking, along with new apps and updated watch faces. Notably, they include Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications to monitor heart health and detect Atrial fibrillation during sleep. Fall Detection and on-device Sleep Coaching have been enhanced, with personalized heart rate zones for better fitness tracking.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 features a skin temperature sensor, now backed by the Skin Temperature API, allowing partners and developers to create advanced infrared-based use cases. The Thermo Check app showcases this API’s capabilities, enabling users to measure object temperatures contact-free.

More apps, such as WhatsApp, Google Calendar, and Gmail, are now supported, and Audible will soon join the lineup. Peloton and MyFitnessPal also receive updates for better fitness and nutritional tracking. The new Wallet app and upgraded Camera Controller app enhance functionality, and Find My Phone with map support is now available, providing peace of mind for users in locating misplaced phones.
