Samsung is reportedly in the process of developing four cutting-edge sensors including the 50MP GN6, the 200MP HP7, an undisclosed 320MP variant, and a substantial 440MP HU1, as leaked by Revegnus on X (formerly Twitter). However, it appears that these sensors are unlikely to find their way into the Galaxy S smartphone lineup, as they are earmarked for other manufacturers and potentially other industries.
The standout among the quartet is the 50MP GN6 sensor, boasting a 1-inch form factor and 1.6µm pixel size. This innovation positions it as a direct competitor to Sony’s widely acclaimed 1-inch IMX989 solution. Interestingly, Samsung’s own products may not adopt this sensor due to its rumored high production cost, paving the way for third-party manufacturers to embrace this technology.
Contrastingly, the purpose of the Samsung 440MP HU1 sensor may transcend the realm of smartphones altogether. With potential applications in the automotive and industrial sectors, this sensor seems tailored for specialized applications beyond conventional mobile devices.
In a potential glimmer of hope for Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series, the 320MP camera might eventually grace the Galaxy S lineup. However, anticipation is advised, as insider insights suggest its appearance might not materialize until the Galaxy S26 Ultra at the earliest.
Interestingly, there’s a 320MP sensor between the 200MP and 440MP sensors. It’s possible that this might find its way into the S26U.

The 200MP HP7 sensor initially appeared poised to complement the Galaxy S25 Ultra, offering slightly larger pixels and marginal enhancements in image quality compared to the existing 200MP HP2 shooter within the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Regrettably, akin to the 1-inch sensor, the cost factor appears to hinder its integration into Samsung’s smartphone offerings.
