YouTube for Android will now let you stream 4K videos, regardless of whatever phone you use. I mean, I tested on a phone that was launched almost seven years ago with 720p as its highest resolution; surprisingly, it played a video at 4K 60fps, which is coolest.
Guys like us will always want to set the highest resolution possible while watching something. But the question is, can you feel the difference on a mobile screen?
If you watch a particular video with lots of texture rendered, you could possibly feel the thin line of difference. But for regular videos, you should observe very carefully to find the difference.
Above all, it might be a boon for many users for two particular reasons. First, the battery, a 4K stream, can consume a lot of juice. Second, the data, if you’ve got high-speed internet with a data cap, beware of the auto resolution, which could drink your data in minutes.
XDA Developers first reported that YouTube has finally updated the Android app to support 2160p streaming. The iOS app is already having that for a long time now. However, the Android app now lets you stream 2160p HDR videos on any smartphone.
All the phones that I’ve tested are already supporting 2160p. If you couldn’t do that yet, wait for it, YouTube might roll out the update in a phased manner.
